At CHI Health, our goal is to serve our community by providing information to help all of us improve our health. We encourage you to join us for an upcoming event, program or class. Many are offered at no cost. Follow the links below for more information or to register online.

Community Olympic Games

Since 1996, Community Olympics has been a summertime staple in Kearney, uniting friends and co-workers for a weekend full of activity, competition and fun. The fourth Friday, Saturday and Sunday in June is filled with teams participating in more than 20 events like table tennis, archery, lip sync, tug-of-war and volleyball. Teams, first 40 to enter consisting of 10-30 participants ages 18 and older, compete for the gold concluding with a family-style barbecue to announce medal and trophy winners. Cost is $30 per person which includes a team t-shirt.

Entry packets will be available at the Kearney Park and Recreation office, 2005 1st Ave, Kearney, NE.

Stroke Center Support Group

Stroke Transitions Group; Providing Support & Education

This group is designed to promote health and healing following a stroke for both the caregiver and survivor. Participants will be provided with education, support and networking opportunities.

Date: Third Thursday of each month

Time: 4:30-5:30 p.m.

  • Bariatric Surgery and Non-Surgical Weight Loss: Are you considering weight loss surgery? Attend our class and learn more about surgical and non-surgical weight loss options.
  • Tobacco Cessation Class: Learn effective techniques to help with cravings and develop a plan to make this significant life change. Join our Tobacco Cessation Class taught by a specially-trained Tobacco Treatment Specialist dedicated to help you succeed. Class cost is $60. Lower level of CHI Health St. Elizabeth. One-on-one counseling sessions are also available. For more information call Tiffany at (402) 219-8093.

  • Cancer Support Groups
  • Continuing Education: The CHI Health Education Department is dedicated to providing continuing education for health professionals on a variety of relevant topics.
  • Heart Care Support Groups
  • Grief Recovery Class: Moving on from a loss can be extremely difficult, regardless of the type of loss (death of a loved one, decline in health or loss of relationship). If you have suffered a loss and are looking for guidance on how to move through this period, please consider our Grief Recovery Class. Participants meet for 1-1.5 hours a week for 8 weeks in a group setting. Call (402) 219-7284 for more information.

Cancellations made more than 72 hours in advance will be fully refunded.

If you do not attend a program or event and no cancellation notice is provided, your payment will not be returned.

If St. Elizabeth cancels a program or event, you will receive a full refund. If the minimum class size requirement is not met, you may be contacted regarding cancellation or to reschedule. Conference cancellation policies may vary. Please refer to the conference information or review your enrollment confirmation.

Cancer Survivorship 101

Cancer Survivorship 101’s small and supportive group setting helps individuals regain their physical, emotional and spiritual health after cancer treatment. Offered yearly starting the second week in March, the free 9-week holistic rehabilitation program is taught by specially trained nurses and mental health practitioners. Telehealth Patient Educational Opportunities

The CHI Health Regional Cancer Center offers educational programming broadcast via Telehealth. These educational offerings focus on patient-specific topics. Patients and their families and loved ones can view these Telehealth educational opportunities either from the comfort of their own home or at their local health care facility. Tobacco Cessation Classes

For anyone interested in quitting tobacco, CHI Health St. Francis offers "Freedom from Smoking" a free tobacco cessation class at the hospital. For more than 30 years, this leading American Lung Association tobacco cessation program shows participants how to quit tobacco — for good — in a small and supportive group setting. The class meets for a seven-week series, three times a year. After registration you will be contacted about exact dates and times. Support Groups

Diabetes Support Group: Doing Diabetes Together

A support group designed for people living with diabetes and their families. Meets every other month at CHI Health St. Francis. Please call (308) 398-5899 for dates and times.

Eat at Mom’s (Breastfeeding Support Group)

Finding good support while you are breastfeeding is often the key to a successful experience. Find that support at "Eat at Mom’s," a free open-house breastfeeding support group that meets at CHI Health St. Francis. Receive hands-on breastfeeding assistance from the hospital’s lactation nurses and learn from and network with other mothers. Additionally, St. Francis offers a ‘Preparing for Breastfeeding" class every other month. Call (308) 398-6595 to register.

Stroke Support Group

CHI Health St. Francis Stroke Support Group focuses on health and healing following a stroke. The group meets at the hospital every other month and provides support, education and networking opportunities. Anyone affected by stroke or brain injury, including family, friends, and caregivers are welcome to attend.
