Female pelvic medicine is the study, identification and treatment of conditions in a woman's urinary tract and pelvic floor. Many treatment options are available to address common, but not normal, conditions affecting this region of the body.
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) physicians, also known as physiatrists, treat a wide variety of medical conditions affecting the brain, spinal cord, nerves, bones, joints, ligaments, muscles, and tendons....all of which are closely tied to many conditions associated with pelvic health.
At CHI Health, we have a wide range of medical providers who are capable of treating any condition affecting a person’s quality of life. Our physiatry team focuses on musculoskeletal factors, realizing that hip and pelvic musculoskeletal/orthopedic conditions are often misdiagnosed and/or underdiagnosed. Oftentimes, multiple conditions go hand-in-hand (ie pelvic floor issues, hip abnormalities, tendon abnormalities, etc.).
Some important factors to consider:
- A proper physical examination is essential.
- Musculoskeletal ultrasound is a very useful adjunctive diagnostic and therapeutic tool.
- We offer various diagnostic injections, therapeutic injections, nerve hydro-dissections, nerve blocks, tendon sheath injections, etc.
- Pelvic floor and hip/pelvic issues in athletes (both males and females) are common.
If you are experiencing pain or musculoskeletal dysfunction in any area of the body, it may be that seeking a consultation with a PM&R specialist is your best first stop. Call our pelvic health navigator at (402) 717-7358 (PELV) to see if this is the right answer for you.

Behavioral health services are sometimes incorporated to pelvic health plans of care, to address feelings of isolation, shame and depression associated with pelvic conditions. Every person is different, and specialized referrals are made on an individual basis.
Outpatient Behavioral Health Clinics
Specially trained mental health professionals offer a wide array of outpatient mental health services including psychiatric testing, medication management, traditional therapy, drug and alcohol testing and treatment to get people back on the road to mental wellness.
Integrated Behavioral Health
Through Integrated Behavioral Health services, a Behavioral Health Specialist is available onsite to provide assessments, offer short-term counseling, coordinate longer-term services and answer questions. It’s a friendly, compassionate approach to connecting people with services that will improve their lives. Patients can access integrated behavioral care through a referral from their primary care provider or other specialty within the clinic. Here, a multidisciplinary, team-based approach is designed to help patients achieve their wellness goals. Integrated Behavioral Health Specialists do not accept direct appointments as they are part of the interdisciplinary treatment team and are available for onsite interventions.
