CHI Health Nebraska Heart Named One of the Nation’s 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals® by Premier, Presented by Modern Healthcare

February 03, 2026

CHI Health Nebraska Heart today was identified as one of the nation’s 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals® according to an independent quality analysis based on a balanced scorecard provided by Premier, Inc. and published by Modern Healthcare

To create this list, a thorough review of public data was completed to find the best heart hospitals in the U.S. The goal is to give hospitals clear information to help them improve heart care for everyone. Hospitals can't apply to be included, and they don't pay to promote this honor. CHI Health Nebraska Heart is the only hospital within the Nebraska, Iowa, and  Kansas region to make this prestigious list.

“This recognition is one of the single greatest achievements in our hospital’s history,” said Rick Thompson, MD, President, CHI Health Nebraska Heart. “Awards like these are earned by every single person who works inside our hospital - from nurses, physicians, therapists, and beyond -  who shows up committed to doing what is right for our patients each and every day. This honor represents teamwork, trust, accountability, and the shared belief that patients and families deserve our very best – every time.”

CHI Health Nebraska Heart is the only dedicated cardiovascular hospital in Nebraska, providing state-of-the-art cardiac, vascular, and thoracic care. Among its services, the hospital includes 63 licensed beds, three catheterization labs, four operating suites, and a 24-hour walk-in chest pain center. Nebraska Heart’s cardiologists provide outreach care at more than 30 clinics throughout Nebraska and Kansas.

Compared to peer hospitals, those in the 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals delivered better results across 21 measures, including clinical outcomes, operational efficiency, extended outcomes and patient experience.

These outcomes add up to meaningful differences. According to the study’s analysis, if all U.S. hospitals’ cardiovascular service lines performed at the level of this year’s 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals, the impact could include:

  • Over 14,000 additional lives potentially saved

  • More than 27,000 additional bypass and angioplasty patients experiencing fewer complications

  • Over $2.0 billion in potential savings.

“Cardiovascular care is one of the most complex and impactful service lines in healthcare,” said David Zito, President of Performance Services at Premier. “The 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals program highlights organizations delivering strong outcomes while providing hospital leaders with meaningful benchmarks to help improve care.”
