Preparation and Care from the Very Start

Bedside admission means our OB admitting nurses will take your information at your bedside – in streamlined fashion – to ease your arrival.

Spacious, private suites with large windows and hardwood floors have a hotel-quality feel, with amenities including:

  • Adjustable labor beds
  • In-room Jacuzzi tub
  • Flat screen television
  • Wireless Internet and accessible outlets for charging
  • Room service with a variety of menu options
  • Refrigerator for personal use
  • Rocking chair and sleep sofas
  • Queen-size postpartum beds

Wireless monitoring means you’re not bound to the labor bed by wires that monitor your baby’s heart rate. You can get up and walk around without being tethered to equipment.

Our open visitation policy allows you to introduce your newborn to family and friends whenever it’s most convenient. A family lounge provides a place for visitors to comfortably gather and enjoy complimentary beverages and snacks.

Advanced security features include the HUGS infant security system, which uses an electronic bracelet to instantly alert staff of an infant’s whereabouts. In addition, the Maternity Center is only accessible to staff members with appropriate security access.

Our Delivery Options can help you, your nurse and health care provider make decisions about how to ease the labor and delivery experience. Options include:

  • Jacuzzi bath or shower
  • Hot tea
  • Warm pack or ice pack
  • Birthing or peanut ball, stool and bar
  • Breathing and relaxation techniques
  • Belly band or abdominal binder
  • 24/7 anesthesia support, including Nitrous Oxide
  • Skin-to-skin time with baby after delivery
  • Quiet time for rest

Enjoy the peace of mind that comes from knowing you’re surrounded by professionals who are uniquely prepared to care for you and your baby. Our experienced OB nurses understand every aspect of the birthing process. Each is ACLS certified in advanced cardiac life support and trained to provide urgent treatment for any medical emergency.

An on-site Intensive Care Unit stands ready to provide high-level care if a mother has complications before, during or after delivery. In fact, CHI Health Lakeside Hospital is the only full-service hospital in west Omaha.

An OB-GYN doctor is in house during daytime hours in our CHI Health Women's Health Clinic attached to the hospital, and from 6 pm to 7 am Monday through Friday and 24/7 on weekend and holidays, should an emergency arise or if an expectant mother goes into labor before her physician can get here.

24/7 access to anesthesiology, including nitrous oxide, means pain control options are quickly available.

Breastfeeding consultants provide one-on-one, consultation. You’ll learn if your baby is getting enough milk, how to pump and store milk safely, how to recognize abnormal pain or infection and, if applicable, how to nurse multiples or babies with special needs. Breastfeeding support continues after new mothers go home because our consultants are available by phone, email and for in-person visits.

Our education classes help moms and dads learn about pregnancy, childbirth and parenting. It’s part of our commitment to supporting growing families.

Level III NICU at CHI Health Lakeside Provides Peace of Mind

Our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is staffed 24/7 by neonatal nurse practitioners and nurses who are specially trained to care for the smallest and sickest newborns. Whether your baby is here for a couple of days or a little longer, your child will stay in an environment specially designed to help him or her grow stronger every day. Our NICU has private rooms that offer peace and privacy to spend time with your baby during their stay. We offer courtesy rooms to stay at the hospital on the unit near your baby. The courtesy room is based on availability.

The Neonatal Intensive Care team at Lakeside cares for babies born as early as 30 weeks. Our specially-designed environment helps premature babies grow stronger every day.

Specialized therapy can help babies grow stronger and go home sooner. Our NICU offers physical, occupational and speech therapy, and registered dietitians develop individualized eating programs based on each baby’s nutritional needs.
