Pharmacy Practice Residency Program

Purpose Statement

The purpose of the Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) Pharmacy Practice Residency Program is to provide organized and directed pharmacy training in an academic medical center setting and community hospital setting, depending on your location selection.

The Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) Pharmacy Practice Residency Program is offered at three CHI Health Hospitals, including, Creighton University Medical Center, Bergan Mercy Medical Center and Immanuel Medical Center. Each of the CHI Health Residency Programs are affiliated with Creighton University School of Pharmacy and Health Professions. A separate application is needed to apply to each residency program.

The program develops the knowledge and skills of the resident in various areas including: medication therapy management, communication, practice management, critical thinking, time management, clinical research, drug information and teaching. The program offers the resident the opportunity and stimulus to develop, to the highest degree obtainable, his/her professional expertise as a practitioner. Graduates of this program will be highly qualified to practice as pharmacist clinicians in patient care positions, adjunct faculty positions, or for PGY2 training in their area of choice.

Structure The residency schedule consists of 12, one month rotation blocks. Rotations are available in many areas of specialization to offer experience in the provision of direct patient care. Additionally longitudinal rotations are used for continual focus in key areas including drug information, health system management, and pharmacy operations, and the schedule allows for up to five months of elective rotations.
