We are sorry to inform you that the CHI Health Lakeside Wellness Center will not be reopening. We would like to thank you for your loyal support of our facility. Our team at Lakeside has sincerely enjoyed having you as a client and helping you pursue your fitness goals.
In the wake of COVID-19, we’ve had to make difficult decisions to close our Wellness Centers at both CHI Health Lakeside and CHI Health Immanuel. This will help us remain focused on our core business. Our Wellness Center would need additional staff, equipment and significant improvements in infrastructure to provide a safe environment for our clients and the club style service our clients expect. While we would love to continue offering this service to our communities, at this time, we are not able to accommodate these additional expenses.
It’s important to us that you continue your wellness journey. We have reached out to other health and fitness facilities in the area and they would welcome the opportunity to show you their facilities so that you might continue your healthy lifestyle. We have a longstanding and deeply rooted partnership with the YMCA of Greater Omaha, including as CHI Health’s own Employee Wellness provider. The Y has graciously offered extra support for you during this transition and beyond. We feel confident they will go above and beyond to welcome you as a member. Members of the Lakeside Wellness Center will receive a special offer of two free months and no joining fee.
If you are a member who has prepaid fees or services, we will immediately begin the process of refunding your account. More details about this process and other common concerns are addressed in the Frequently Asked Questions below. Q1: Why did the Wellness Centers close? Was it due to COVID-19?
A: Our wellness centers have been challenged with decreasing volumes and more competition for a while now. However, COVID-19 is a big factor in making the tough call to close. We’ve had to invest in facilities to prepare for a surge of patients and at the same time, we had to suspend elective procedures that contribute to our bottom line. Our Wellness Center would need additional staff, equipment and maintenance in order to provide a safe environment for our clients, and at this time, we are not able to accommodate these additional expenses.
Q2: What will happen if I am enrolled in an automatic payment plan for my membership dues?
A: You will receive no additional deductions from your account. The final member billing occurred in March 2020.
Q3: I pre-paid for my membership. Will I be refunded for any remaining months on my account?
A: Yes, you will be refunded any remaining months on your pre-paid membership, retro-dated to April 2020. For example, if your membership was pre-paid through December 31, 2020, you will receive monthly credit for April to December (9 months). If you are due a refund, you will receive a letter confirming the number of months refunded and the total amount of your refund. If you have an active credit/debit card on file, your refund will be issued to that account. If we need additional information to process your refund, we will reach out to you by phone.
Q4: I pre-paid for services such as massage, personal training, Reformer Pilates, a punch pass, and/or swim lessons. Will I be refunded for any unused services?
A: Yes, you will be refunded for any remaining services on your account. If you are due a refund, you will receive a letter confirming the services being refunded and the total amount of your refund. If you have an active credit/debit card on file, your refund will be issued to that account. If we need additional information to process your refund, we will reach out by phone.
Q5: I have an unused gift certificate, or I purchased a service as a gift for someone else. What will happen to that gift certificate?
A: We will make every effort to offer the gift certificate holder the cash equivalent of their service. If the contact information for the individual receiving the gift was given to us, we will attempt to contact the gift recipient and offer the cash-equivalent of their service. If the information of the gift recipient was not provided but it is known that the purchaser of the gift certificate is a member, we will attempt to contact that member to obtain information for the gift recipient.
Q6: I have a rental locker. How will I be able to collect any belongings that are currently in my locker?
A: Those members on our locker rental list will receive additional communication from a staff member to arrange a time to collect your personal property. You are also welcome to email us at CHIHealthWellnessCenters@alegent.org or call us at (402) 758-5700 to arrange a time to pick up your possessions. The Wellness Center gym and locker rooms are not accessible to the public without prior arrangement with our staff.
Q7: I want to continue to work out at a gym. Can you assist with finding another facility?
A: We have reached out to other health and fitness facilities in the area and they would welcome the opportunity to help you continue your healthy lifestyle. We’ve looked specifically for places that have comparable programs, fees and are conveniently located in our community. CHI Health is fortunate for our ongoing partnership with the YMCA of Greater Omaha for several services, including as CHI Health’s own Employee Wellness Provider. There is an available offer for those members that transfer to the Y from CHI Health Wellness Centers. There is also a promotion for no enrollment fees through The Athletic Club on 132nd and Center. A sampling of other nearby gym locations are listed below.
Q8: Many other area gyms have been open for several weeks. Was it possible to announce the permanent closure at an earlier date?
A: During the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, our initial and immediate focus was given to caring for those impacted by this illness; closure of our Wellness Centers was warranted and ongoing closure was advisable until our local communities experienced a peak and recovery in COVID-19 cases. We also began extensive planning on the additional resources and procedures that would be required to maintain our commitment to a safe and healthy environment for our community members, including ongoing infrastructure updates and equipment needs in our Wellness facilities for the near future. As the duration and impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on our healthcare organization became more clear, we were faced with difficult decisions. Ultimately, these decisions were made after extensive review and planning to make sure we could ease the transition for our staff and members.
Q9: How will the Lakeside Wellness Center space be utilized going forward?
A: Outpatient Rehabilitation (physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy services) will continue to be offered in the CHI Health clinic located in Suite 109 of CHI Health Lakeside Wellness Center. If you have interest in Outpatient Rehabilitation services, please call 402-758-5050 for additional information. We will be looking for other opportunities to make use of the fitness area space.
Q10: I currently perform exercise in the Therapy (warm water) Pool. Are there any options to continue warm water exercise?
A: At this time, the warm water pool at Lakeside Wellness Center will not be open to the public for community programming. The CHI Health Immanuel Aquatic Center (6901 N 72nd St, Omaha, NE 68122) does offer a warm water Therapy Pool and is accepting new community members. The Immanuel Aquatic Center includes a wide variety of programming from independent exercise to beginning and advanced fitness classes. For more information on membership at Immanuel Aquatic Center, please call 402-572-2288. Also, AgeWell at Lakeside Village (see Appendix) provides options for aquatic exercise for their members.
Q11: I have a personalized exercise program that is stored at Lakeside Wellness Center. Will I be able to pick up my program?
A: If your personalized exercise program is currently located at our facility and you’d like to have a copy, feel free to email us at CHIHealthWellnessCenters@alegent.org to receive a digital copy or call us at 402-758-5700 to arrange a time to pick up.
Q12: What will happen to the staff that currently work at Lakeside Wellness Center?
A: The Wellness Center staff have been a valuable asset to our Center, and we are dedicated to assisting our staff with finding new positions. Wellness Center staff are eligible for open positions within our system in a variety of areas such as clinical practice, administrative and support roles, food service, and environmental services. In the metro area, CHI Health has over 800 open positions of opportunity. Also, through our partnership with the YMCA, we will work to facilitate staff placement into similar fitness and support roles in a number of local YMCA facilities.
Q13: I have interest in purchasing equipment from the Center. Am I able to do this?
A: We do not have immediate plans to sell the fitness equipment. If you have interest in a specific piece of equipment and would like to be added to our contact list if any equipment becomes available, feel free to email us with your contact information and equipment interest at CHIHealthWellnessCenters@alegent.org.
Q14: I am currently a massage therapy or personal training client, and I would like to continue to receive massage therapy or personal training services from my specific therapist or trainer. If they become employed at another facility, will I be able to be notified of their updated place of practice?
A: With the permission of your individual massage therapist or personal trainer, we are happy to help connect you to their future location of practice. Please email us at CHIHealthWellnessCenters@alegent.org to be added to our contact list if we have updates on their place of employment.
