Physical Therapy session with pregnancy woman and therapist

Pregnancy Physical Therapy

Pregnancy is a joyful time. But it can also be uncomfortable for the mom-to-be as it puts tremendous strain on the body. As many as 2 out of 3 pregnant women experience back pain. It’s not surprising when you consider the many changes a pregnant woman’s body undergoes, from hormone, posture, muscle and ligament fluctuations to added weight and skeletal changes.

Pregnancy Physical Therapy can help you with back pain and other common discomforts. Remember that physical therapy is not just for recovery from injury. Simple techniques and exercises can also help prevent painful muscle strains and injuries – so you can be at your best throughout pregnancy and beyond. The positioning techniques, strength exercises and toning offered by physical therapy can:

  • Improve comfort for sitting and sleeping.
  • Ease daily activities like moving from sitting to standing.
  • Increase endurance and muscle strength, particularly in muscle groups needed for delivering baby.
  • Increase muscle toning, which improves metabolism, reduces fatigue and makes it easier to return to pre-pregnancy weight.

CHI Health offers Pregnancy Physical Therapy for a variety of pregnancy-related concerns. Our physical therapists develop individualized treatment plans and our services are covered by most medical insurance plans with varying out-of-pocket costs. Talk to your OB/GYN or Midwife for a referral, or call us for more information.
