Don't Get Sidelined

John Cook, Nebraska Volleyball coach: In volleyball, the assist is essential. It's the pass that puts teams in position to score. I'm here to remind you that a simple assist can save your life. While we're all on guard against the Coronavirus, cancer remains the second leading killer of Nebraskans. But it is much easier to beat if you follow through with routine screenings like mammograms and colonoscopies. Don't delay. Give yourself the assist of early detection. It is a live-saving move. Stay safe and Go Big Red.

In football, there is no off season. Husker players are always working on their physical and mental strength. Scott Frost is here to remind you that your overall health is just important today as it was before COVID-19 changed the game. It’s essential to eat right, get regular exercise and take care of health issues -- whether it’s diabetes, heart disease or a new concern you’ve been toughing out. Don’t delay, get care so you don’t get sidelined. Stay safe, be well and Go Big Red.

Living in pandemic times is tough. The coronavirus creates stress in all of our lives. If you are struggling with anxiety, depression, or other mental health issues, I am going to tell you what we tell our athletes: asking for help is a sign of strength. You’ll be better for it. Start by talking to your provider or someone you trust. Help is closer than you think. Stay safe, be well, and Go Big Red!

In basketball, everyone plays offense and defense. I'm here to urge you to do the same. Before Coronavirus came to the Midwest, heart disease was the leading cause of death for Nebraskans. It still poses the greatest threat, because people with heart disease, like me, are more likely to experience life-threatening complications of COVID-19. While we're on defense against this virus, go on the offensive for your heart. Practice healthy habits and get regular check ups. It's a winning strategy. Stay safe, be well and Go Big Red!
