Dr. Hess' early education began on active duty with the Air Force where he trained as a Physical Therapy Assistant with a specialty of Sports Rehabilitation. He began professional education at Weber State University, UT and completed his Baccalaureate in Science at University of Nebraska. He graduated with Honors from the Interservice Physician Assistant Program and served nearly four years as a PA with the Air Force, during which, he graduated with his Masters Degree.
Dr. Hess completed his Medical Doctorate at University of Nebraska College of Medicine, graduating with Distinction. He graduated a member of the prestigious, Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honors Society, reserved for top medical graduates. He completed an internship in general surgery at University of Nebraska Medical Center and served 2 years on Active Duty in the US Air Force as a licensed physician. During that time he was deployed with the 386th Air Expeditionary Wing (ACC), Ali Al Salem AB.
Upon return, he began residency in orthopedic surgery at San Antonio Military Medical Center (SAMMC), Joint Base San Antonio, Texas. During residency he received specific training in Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery at Rady Childrens Hospital, San Diego, CA. Also, Sports and Hand & Upper Extremity Surgery at United States Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, CO. His Orthopaedic Trauma Surgery training was accomplished at University of Texas at San Antonio as well as at SAMMC, treating both severe orthopaedic civilian trauma as well as military trauma suffered by deployed personnel in Afghanistan, and abroad. He completed fellowship training in hand surgery at the Philadelphia Hand Center, Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, PA.
Dr. Hess' medical interests encompass all pathology from the shoulder to the fingertips. He is especially interested in the treatment and reconstruction of wrist problems and traumatic injuries to the upper extremities. Dr. Hess is an active member of Alpha Omega Alpha National and Nebraska Chapter (AOA), American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH), and the American Association for Hand Surgery (AAHS) Dr. Hess is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons (ABOS).
