Popular Anchor Delivers First Baby: Meet Michael!
January 17, 2017
You know Melissa Fry by her smile as a KETV Newswatch 7 anchor. Now look at her smile not long after she delivered Michael Henry at CHI Health Bergan Mercy!
"We didn’t know if we were having a boy or a girl so it was a total surprise," she said. "Dad Dan got to call out the gender. Instead of yelling ‘boy,’ he said, ‘It’s Michael!’ We have loved that name. St. Michael the Archangel is a defender and a protector."
Michael weighed eight-pounds-13 ounces and was 21-and-a-half inches long.
Melissa said the staff at Bergan was wonderful. She’s also a fan of "skin to skin," where the baby has contact with the mother right after birth. "It really calms Michael down – and Mom too," she said.
Bergan Mercy Nurse Kara Johnson showed Dan’s other boys how to bathe a newborn and explained the purpose of the umbilical cord to them. Michael is Dan’s fourth son.
Melissa’s reaction: "I think we should start a boy band!"
