Stroke Camp Brings Cheer to Survivors, Caregivers

A meaningful weekend for stroke survivors, their caregivers and volunteers took place this past August, thanks to the generous support of the CHI Health St. Elizabeth/Nebraska Heart Foundation. Together with the Lincoln Stroke Partnership and in collaboration with United Stroke Alliance, the foundation has sponsored Stroke Camp annually for the past 10 years.

The camp is a weekend of "glamping" for survivors and caregivers, providing an opportunity for them to retreat, refresh and connect with others who have had the similar experiences. Paddle boating, swimming, hiking, crafts and music are just some of the many activities available at the camp. This year, St. Elizabeth Stroke Coordinator Hanne Beldin was presented with a plaque in recognition of the hospital foundation’s decade-long sponsorship of the camp.

“I was able to attend this year for the first time as a volunteer and was incredibly impressed by the event,” Beldin said. “I am grateful to work for an organization who values this opportunity for our stroke survivors.”
