GRAND ISLAND—CHI Health St. Francis will take a ceremonial step forward Friday with the groundbreaking for its highly-anticipated new Surgical Services department.

The combined groundbreaking and demolition celebration begins at 4 p.m. Friday, May 10 on the west side of the hospital campus, 2620 W. Faidley Ave., near Entrance D.

Construction on the 37,500-square-foot, $ 32 million addition is planned for completion in early 2021. The new larger space will replace the hospital’s current operating rooms built in 1978 and will feature state-of-the-art surgical suites, endoscopy suites, and private pre-operative and post-operative rooms.

The Surgical Services department will continue to operate out of its current location until construction is complete.
