Run Baby Run event rallies support for NICU babies, families at CHI Health St. Elizabeth
LINCOLN – Start June off on the right foot and run alongside the CHI Health St. Elizabeth NICU families and staff! For the first time, the hospital is hosting a mile and 5k fun run at Holmes Lake Park. The goal of the event is to raise money for the CHI Health St. Elizabeth Foundation, which helps support parents and their children during their often long and difficult hospital stay.
“Families have so many needs while in the NICU,” said CHI Health St. Elizabeth NICU Manager GayAnn Wagner. “It’s emotionally and physically draining not to be with their baby every second, but it’s also hard financially, too. This is where we can help raise funds to ease this difficult time.”
Registration fees for the event are $20 per runner or $40 per family. The race is open to anyone and participants can run or walk. Community members must register for the race by May 18 to receive a t-shirt. Sign up at https://give.chihealth.com/NICUFunRun to take part.
Following the fun run, CHI Health St. Elizabeth staff members will have the chance to reunite with NICU graduates and their families at a reunion.
“The NICU staff at CHI Health St. Elizabeth looks forward to this all year,” Wagner said. “We put our hearts into the care of these kids and there is absolutely nothing more rewarding than seeing them after they’ve gone home.”
The event is family-friendly and there will be additional activities at the park, including face painting and games. Lincoln Fire and Rescue, Josh the Otter, the Connected Forever organization and Kona Ice will also take part in the fun.
