Renee Miller was named as the winner of the 2018 Mother Bonzel Award on Monday, Sept. 17, at CHI Health St. Francis. The Mother Bonzel Award is presented annually to a St. Francis employee who gives of their time, volunteering in their community.
Miller, who is a registered nurse working in Cardiac/Pulmonary Rehabilitation at St. Francis, has volunteered her time as a parish nurse at Resurrection Catholic Church, traveled on several parish mission trips and volunteered for the Miller Foundation, Hope Harbor and Make-A-Wish. In addition, Miller has assisted with Grand Island Central Catholic’s "The Knight" fundraiser and assisted in coaching track and field at GICC.
Here is an excerpt from one of the several nomination letters that were sent on Miller’s behalf: "Renee has the biggest heart. I have never seen someone volunteer so much of her time to benefit others in the community. She has helped families within her church, families and patients in St. Lucia and women and children at Hope Harbor. She has volunteered countless hours to GICC fundraising for the school and coaching track. She has an endless amount of compassion for every patient she encounters."
