Residency Program

The Residency Program is a 9 month, full-time intensive program.  It is primarily designed for clergy and qualified lay persons who are seeking to become board certified chaplains. Participants who satisfactorily complete the program requirements receive 3.0 units of Level I/Level II CPE. 

Meeting Times & Location

  • Monday-Friday, schedule varies, 1-hour weekly supervision
  • One evening or Saturday shift per week (rotating schedule)
  • Meets at CHI Health McAuley Fogelstrom Center, Omaha NE
  • Clinical placement sites include Omaha and Lincoln
  • Meets virtually during severe weather e.g. winter snowstorms

Program Learning and Service Expectations

  • Active participation in all group and individual supervisory experiences
  • Completion of all written assignments including reflection papers, verbatim reports and self-evaluations
  • 3.5 days of clinical ministry
  • Weekly 4-hour evening shift at CUMC Bergan Mercy, 5:00 - 9:00 pm, Tuesday - Friday*

Admission Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree preferred
  • Pastoral ministry experience preferred
  • Completion of 1.0 unit of CPE strongly preferred
  • Computer literacy
  • Complete ACPE application
  • English Language Proficiency
  • Initial and Team Admission Interviews (on-site preferred) or via video conference

Tuition and Fees

  • $25 Nonrefundable application fee
  • $500 per unit (less deposit) – 3 units = $1500 total*
