Chief Medical Officer, CHI Health
Cary Ward, MD, Chief Medical Officer of CHI Health, has served in this role since the inception of CHI Health in 2014. Dr. Ward is an internal medicine specialist, who served as the director of the hospitalist program, then Chief Medical Officer at CHI Health St. Elizabeth in Lincoln. He also served as the director of hospitalist operations for the 35 hospitalist programs within CHI in the early 2000s. Dr. Ward received the John C. Finnegan Award while in Lincoln for contributions to the city’s Family Practice Residency. He is a member of the contributed services faculty for Creighton University School of Medicine.
Dr. Ward received his medical degree from the University of Texas, Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, served his Internal Medicine residency at Washington University, Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, and received his MBA from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
Dr. Ward currently serves on the board of directors for the Siena Francis House, an Omaha area homeless shelter and previously served as a founding member of the board of Peoples Health center, a Family Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in Lincoln. He also serves on the board of directors for CHI Health Partners and Midland Choice.
Dr. Ward met his wife, Jolene, a nurse, in St. Louis and she brought him to Nebraska more than 30 years ago. Together, they have three children. In his free time Dr. Ward enjoys, aviation, golf and playing keyboards in church and musical events around Nebraska.
