The Rev. James Clifton has served as a director on the CHI Health Board since July 18, 2013 (he was originally appointed to the CHI Health Board in January 2013). In addition, he is a member of the following board committees: Finance, Nominating & Governance Committee and Physician Transaction Review Committee.

In August 2012, Father Clifton was named associate vice president of Health Sciences, Mission & Identity at Creighton University. Prior to that, he served as an associate at Creighton University’s Center for Health Policy & Ethics and assistant rector of Creighton University’s Jesuit Community. Before joining Creighton University’s faculty, Father Clifton served as pastor of St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, president of All Saints Catholic School and director of Pastoral Care at Creighton University Medical Center (all Omaha).

Father Clifton attended Creighton University from 1974-1977, where he studied philosophy, theology and education. In 1977, he entered the Jesuit Novitiate (St. Paul, Minn.) and took his First Vows in 1979. That same year, he returned to Creighton University to study humanities. In 1980, Father Clifton enrolled at St. Louis University (Mo.); and in 1982, he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from St. Louis University. Following graduation, he returned to Omaha and began teaching English at Creighton Prep High School. In 1984, he was named academic assistant principal at Creighton Prep. In 1985, Father Clifton entered the Jesuit School of Theology in Berkeley, Calif.; and in 1988, he was ordained a priest at Gesu Church in Milwaukee, Wis. One year later, Fr. Clifton earned his master of divinity degree from the Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley.
