Q: My husband is overweight and I'm starting to really get scared for his health. What can I do to motivate him to get in shape?
A:
Carlos Prendes M.D.
"Be a good example. Only cook food that is good for the whole family. Turn off the TV and go for walks, inviting him and any kids/dog along. If you try to "Motivate" him, you will nag him. You can lead a horse to water and all that. Make fittness and healthy living a family goal, and start everyone on the path. You will get complaints, and maybe some push back, but keep it up. Exercise yourself. Limit Screen time for the whole family. Eventually, you may drag him kicking and screaming into the realization that when you are overweight, you generally feel terrible, and when you exersice, eat healthfully, and even lose 10% of your mass, you feel much better."
