Nurse practitioners are advanced practice nurses who provide high-quality health care services similar to those of a doctor. NP’s have completed advanced education and clinical training beyond their registered nurse preparation. They also must pass the certification exam from the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
Physician assistants are health care professionals licensed to practice medicine with physician supervision. After completing extensive education, PA’s take a national certification exam in conjunction with the National Board of Medical Examiners. From treating illnesses to advising patients on maintaining a healthy lifestyle, nurse practitioners and physician assistants provide a full range of services. They can conduct physical exams, diagnose and treat illness, order and interpret tests, counsel on preventative care, and write prescriptions.
