Cary Ward, MD, chief medical officer of CHI Health, previously served as chief medical officer at CHI Health St. Elizabeth in Lincoln, starting in 2002. His role expanded in 2010 when he also became the physician lead for Quality for the former CHI Nebraska. An internal medicine specialist by training, Dr. Ward formerly directed the hospitalist program at St. Elizabeth. He leads the Medicare Bundled Payment Care Improvement Project for total joint surgery. Under Dr. Ward’s leadership, St. Elizabeth achieved Magnet status, the hospital’s perfect care scores improved to 97 percent and patient satisfaction reached the 90th percentile.

Dr. Ward received his medical degree from the University of Texas, Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, served his residency at Washington University, Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, and received his MBA from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
