Prevention & Detection
In a perfect world, there would be no cancer. We're not there yet. Maybe someday. But as science moves in that direction, we at CHI Health will continue to do everything in our power to keep our community healthy and to detect cancer early, when it's most survivable. When it comes to cancer prevention and early detection, we are never standing still. Our community-based preventive screenings, revolutionary detection methods, and the largest network of primary care physicians are working together to fight cancer in Nebraska and western Iowa.
Early Cancer Detection
Omaha is known for a lot of things. Inventing revolutionary techniques for cancer detection might be one of our best kept secrets. Our physicians at CHI Health have earned national recognition for their work in cancer detection. And what might be even more revolutionary is that they found a way to get this information into the hands of the people who are in the best position to use it—primary care physicians.
An Army of Primary Care Providers
Alegent Creighton Clinic has more primary care physicians than any other system in the region and they are all on the front lines - helping their patient prevent and find cancer early. The first step in cancer prevention and/or early detection is through regular check-ups and healthy living. See your primary care physician every year to stay on top of keeping healthy and to learn what cancer screens you should have based on your age and family history. If you do not have a primary care physician, we can help you find one.
Cancer prevention and early detection through community outreach and educational programs is a major focus of the CHI Health Cancer Center. We have provided cancer education to thousands of people through health fairs and education programs. To raise awareness regarding the importance of early detection, we provide free screenings throughout the year for breast cancer, colorectal cancer, head and neck cancer, prostate cancer and skin cancer. In 2012, we served a total of 1,357 patients through our free screening programs.
