Faith Community Nurses: Foundations of Faith Community Nursing
A recognized curriculum from the International Parish Nurse Resource Center, is offered yearly in the fall. The six-day course is usually divided into three Friday-Saturday segments over three months. All who are interested in becoming a Faith Community Nurse are welcome to apply. Class size is limited. No charge for first two Network members from a congregation. $500 for non-network participants if space is available.
Health Ministers: Health Ministry Basics
Offered in the spring, weekly in five three-hour segments. Anyone who would like to build a health ministry in their congregation (professional or lay person) is welcome. Class size is limited. No charge for first two Network members from a congregation. $100 for non-network participants if space is available.
Living Well Leader Training
Offered In conjunction with the NE Department of Health and Human Services, Living Well is a research-based chronic disease self-management program. Leaders (who can be lay or professional) will facilitate workshops to empower those with chronic conditions to make healthier choices. Workshop participants can experience fewer emergency room visits and hospitalizations, feel better able to make decisions regarding their health, have less pain, etc. Leaders will offer two 6-week workshops the first year, and at least one per year thereafter to remain certified. No charge.
Tai Chi Leader Training
Offered In conjunction with the Omaha's Friendship Program, Inc. Tai Chi Training imparts skills needed to lead Tai Chi classes in congregations and elsewhere. Tai Chi has been shown to reduce falls and helps improve health in other areas. We provide partial scholarships for those who join our network at a program or higher level. Leaders will present two 12-week sessions per year to remain certified. Partial scholarships available.
Road to Health Leader Training (Diabetes Toolkit)
This training program provides skills to utilize a toolkit of information to share in your congregation/community, that will encourage healthier lifestyle choices to prevent or delay type 2 diabetes. Leaders can be lay or professional persons. No charge.
Walking or Physical Activity Program Leaders
Research shows we should aim for 150 minutes of physical activity a week to promote health (more for kids). We have several physical activity programs you can offer in your congregation/community. Training is on an individual basis and is offered at no charge. Contact us!
