The CHI Health Alegent Creighton Clinic Esophageal Center is lead by Dr. Sumeet Mittal, Dr. Tommy Lee and Dr. Charles Filipi, three of the region's most respected esophageal specialists.
|Sumeet Mittal, M.D., FACS
Director, Esophageal Center, Assistant Professor of Surgery
Dr. Mittal received his medical degree from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Delhi, India, and completed a clinical esophageal fellowship at the University of Southern California. He is a member of the American College of Surgeons and the Society of Laparoscopic and Endoscopic Surgeons and is certified by the American Board of Surgery.
Dr. Mittal’s interests include benign and malignant disease of the esophagus and stomach, minimally invasive surgery, intensive care of post-operative patients and transoral surgery for reflux disease. He has performed more than 400 laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication procedures. Dr. Mittal is course director of the Annual Esophageal Conference sponsored by Creighton University School of Medicine.
|Tommy H. Lee, M.D., F.R.C.S.C.
Esophageal Center, Assistant Professor of Surgery
Dr. Lee received his medical degree from the Queen’s University School of Medicine in Kingston, Canada, and completed a fellowship in Minimally Invasive Surgery at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland. He is a certified Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
Dr. Lee’s interests include benign and malignant disease of the esophagus and stomach, and minimally invasive surgery. Along with Dr. Mittal, he is a course director of the Annual Esophageal Conference sponsored by Creighton University School of Medicine.
|Charles Filipi, M.D.
Dr. Filipi is Professor of Surgery in the Department of Surgery at Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska. Dr. Filipi has served as president of the American Hernia Society and editor of the Journal Hernia. He has published 105 peer reviewed articles and 51 book chapters. He has been the inventor on over 15 patents and 5 years ago became medical director of SafeStitch Medical Inc. He continues to see patients one day a week and devotes his remaining time to research and humanitarian initiatives. His primary interests are intra-luminal surgery for the correction of gastroesophageal reflux disease and obesity, Barrett’s esophagus mucosal excision and the non-profit organizations Hernia Repair for the Underserved and Diabetes and Chronic Disease Improvement International.
