CUMC Regains Level I Trauma Center Designation

Friday afternoon the state of Nebraska approved the medical center’s application to be designated as a comprehensive trauma center.

What does that means for Council Bluffs Fire and Rescue? Not a whole lot, actually.

“It’ll be business as usual for us,” said Rick Benson, EMS director for Council Bluffs, noting his department still took trauma patients to Creighton Medical.

“We still went to Creighton. They were still a self-designated trauma center. They still had everything they had today, they didn’t forget how to take care of patients,” he said. “So we still took ‘em there. We just tried to stay out of the political war.”
