Athletic training camp expects better performance, fewer injuries

Millard West High School students participate in summer athletic training programs to avoid season-ending injuries during the school year.

About 135 athletes are conditioning twice a week at a camp focused on functional movement. The goal is to increase performance by teaching proper stretching techniques, running and other flexibility exercises.

"The more we can get the girls to be symmetrical, the better they’re going to perform," said Ashley Hinze, team lead for Sports Medicine with Alegent Creighton Health.  "Some major-league athletes are doing it, as well, because we're working on injury prevention."
