Hold the Operation!

Article Date: Aug 16, 2011

Have you ever found a bump or a lump on your body and assumed the worst? Ever feared that stomachache was actually an ulcer or wondered if a random heart palpitation was a sign of something much more sinister?

Don’t worry – it happens to all of us. But thankfully our fears don’t always match our final diagnosis.

That’s where your primary care doctor comes in. Rather than spend hours researching why an earache could mean you’re going deaf – all you really need to do is call your primary care doctor. He or she is trained to answer any questions and alleviate any fears you may have so you don’t head down the wrong path for treatment.

Take, for example, our childhood friend Cavity Sam.

**Yes, that Cavity Sam. The one who entertained you (and annoyed your parents) in the classic game, OPERATION™

If Cavity Sam had a cramp in his leg – he had an operation. If he suffered from a little indigestion, he had an operation. By the end of a typical Family Game Night, a “surgeon” would have poked and prodded at Sam’s ailments until there really wasn’t much left.

But instead of going under the knife, Sam could have saved a whole wad of cash – and gone home with fewer scars – if he’d only checked with his primary care doctor before signing up for a major operation. Take a look at this breakdown:
