Quitting smoking is hard, and we understand that, so let us help you Commit to Quit smoking cigarettes!

Commit to Quit is The Cardiac Center's highly successful smoking cessation program, conducted in a group counseling format. The 7-week Commit to Quit program assists participants in changing behaviors, identifying and utilizing tools to assist in the quit process, and quitting smoking for good. Attendees are encouraged (but not required) to gradually cut back on their smoking, and then attempt to quit smoking during the 5th week of the program.

Quitting takes practice and discipline for many smokers (and other tobacco users). We recognize this, so Commit to Quit is designed to help people re-learn how to live their lives tobacco-free by utilizing current motivation, past experiences, and encouraging step-by-step changes in behavior. The first half of each class is a lecture format devoted to helping participants understand critical issues related to tobacco use. Topics include:

  • Preparing for change
  • Identifying triggers
  • Coping techniques
  • Stress management
  • Pharmaceutical options
  • Gradual smoking reduction up to quit day
  • The second half of each class focuses on group treatment, allowing members to explore issues important to them and learn from each other’s experiences.

    1-on-1 Services

    Not a "group person" or feel like you need a little more personalized attention? We can help you with your smoking cessation goals in a 1-on-1 format too. Meet with a tobacco cessation specialist to develop a quit plan, work through your quitting process, or to help keep you on track with staying quit. Sessions are typically 45-60 minutes. Topics discussed and number of sessions vary depending on individual need--YOU are in the driver's seat.

    What if I use smokeless tobacco, like dip, chew, or snus? Can you still help?

    ABSOLUTELY! We work with smokeless tobacco users in both our group and 1-on-1 formats as well. Your needs are a little different than a smoker's, so be sure to let your counselor know you use smokeless tobacco not cigarette tobacco.
