Community Benefit - CHI Health, Omaha, Nebraska (NE)

Kearney, Nebraska to Corning, Iowa, CHI Health is honored to serve the health needs of the communities we serve. CHI Health exists to create healthier communities, and this report highlights our progress and achievements in this regard during the past fiscal year (July 1, 2013 to June 30, 2014). A total of $149.3 million in total community benefit was invested in FY14, which is a 7.4 increase over last year. Of that amount, CHI Health invested $17 million to improve community health. We collaborate with local health coalitions to analyze data and plan how to collectively impact priority health issues.

It is also our duty, deeply rooted in our faith-based Mission, to serve vulnerable individuals, including people with mental illness or those who are uninsured and underinsured. To fulfill that commitment, we invested more than $53 million in financial assistance and $79 million in the unpaid costs of serving Medicaid patients this past year. We are also the largest provider of behavioral health care in our region.

We know that where a person lives, works and plays has a great impact on overall health and life expectancy. This is why we are compelled, beyond providing excellent health care, to work with neighbors, leaders and partner organizations to improve community health.
