Technology will be spotlighted on tour with HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius

OMAHA, Neb. – Continuing its leadership is transforming healthcare, Alegent Health will host U.S. Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius at Lakeside Hospital on Friday, June 12. Sebelius will be in Omaha to discuss health reform and see the advanced health information technology (HIT) being utilized at Alegent Health Lakeside Hospital to improve patient outcomes.

Alegent Health Lakeside Hospital was one of the first all digital hospitals in the nation. The Obama Administration has pledged to expand the use of HIT, which Alegent Health has shown reduces medical errors and improves quality outcomes for patients.

"We are excited to show Secretary Sebelius how Alegent Health has made great strides in improving quality and reducing the cost of healthcare," said Wayne Sensor, president and CEO of Alegent Health. "We believe what we are doing here is a model for health reform across the country and can be achieved by any health system.”

Earlier this week, Sensor met with policymakers in Washington, D.C. to discuss elements of healthcare reform. Those meetings, including one with Nancy-Ann DeParle, counselor to the President and director of the White House Office of Health Reform, focused on Alegent Health’s work in evidence based care to increase quality, transforming the delivery of care and engaging consumers in the their healthcare. Shortly after his meeting with DeParle, Secretary Sebelius’ staff reached out to Alegent Health to schedule tomorrow’s visit.

After a consumer roundtable Friday morning, Sebelius will meet with media in the lobby of Alegent Health Lakeside Hospital before touring the Intensive Care Unit and Emergency Department.
