OMAHA, Neb. – Immanuel Senior Living and Alegent Health today celebrated the completion of The Lighthouse, a community of 32 private, long term care residences on the Lakeside Village campus. The new community establishes a unique and innovative approach to delivering long term care and is part of a $14 million project to establish a Continuing Care Retirement Community at Lakeside Village.
“From independent living to long term care, Lakeside Village can now provide a continuum of care as health needs change,” said Randy Korth, President of Immanuel. “We are transforming long term care with the addition of The Lighthouse and we are committed to serving our residents and their families with our innovative approach to senior housing and health care services.”
The Lighthouse offers 32 private, state-of-the-art residences designed to respect seniors and their unique needs. The apartments are large and feature specialized ceiling lifts, European bathrooms, a new electronic integrated care management system, flat screen televisions and a keyless perimeter.
Built on a philosophy of person-centered care and Christ-centered service, The Lighthouse is transforming long term care. Care partners work with residents and their families to address their physical, intellectual and spiritual needs. Community spaces include a kitchen and dining area, overstuffed chairs, fireplaces and a garden where residents may interact with family and friends or take part in activities.
“The Lighthouse provides Alegent Health the opportunity to bring our long-standing tradition of compassionate care for the body, mind and spirit of every person into a long term care community,” said Alegent Health President Richard Hachten, II. “We are dedicated to providing a new way of delivering long term care that gives seniors the power to make decisions about their lifestyles in a supportive and home-like environment.”
Immanuel’s Lakeside expansion includes Immanuel’s first memory support unit in Omaha. The 12 private residences provide services to seniors with Alzheimer’s and other types of dementia. The residences incorporate the Alzheimer’s Association 2006 design recommendations for quality residential care and include the new electronic integrated care management system and keyless perimeter.
The expansion also adds additional assisted living residences and an on-campus chapel.
“The additional services we now offer are in line with our strategic priority to develop a Christ-centered continuum of senior housing and services that is coordinated, comprehensive and accessible,” added Korth. “The first residents of The Lighthouse are couples who will transition from other Lakeside apartments. The couples have been separated because of different levels of care and now will be able to stay together and receive specialized care based on their unique needs.”
Vacancies for all of the new apartments – assisted living, memory support and The Lighthouse – are already filled and a waiting list established.
To staff the expansion, an additional 40 employees are joining the Lakeside campus, bringing Lakeside’s total employment to 125. At its seven retirement communities, Immanuel Senior Services employs 400 people, making Immanuel the region’s leading provider of senior housing and services.
