Alegent Health Foundation Honors two with Gerald T. Bergan Awards

OMAHA, Neb. — The Alegent Health Foundation invites the community to celebrate Bergan Mercy Medical Center’s rich heritage at the Gerald T. Bergan award brunch. JoAnne Jarvis and Dr. Maryanne Stevens, RSM will be honored on Sun., April 13, 2008 at 11:30 a.m. at the Bergan Mercy Medical Center dining center located at 7500 Mercy Rd. The Gerald T. Bergan award was created to recognize those individuals, organizations or businesses that have made significant contributions of time and commitment to Alegent Health’s Mission in providing excellence in faith-based health care. The brunch will follow an 11 a.m. Mass at the Our Lady of Hope Sister Norita Cooney Chapel located at the hospital.

JoAnne Jarvis currently serves as a consultant for special projects within Alegent Health. Prior to that, she served five years as the director of surgical services at Bergan Mercy Medical Center and was the interim vice president of Cardiovascular Services from Oct., 1999 through July, 2000. She also accepted a temporary position as Alegent Health’s liaison to Dasco Corporation during the construction of the new medical office building on Lakeside Hospital’s campus. JoAnne was raised in the Catholic Church. She and her husband Rich live in west Omaha.

Dr. Maryanne Stevens, RSM, has served as the College of Saint Mary’s president since taking office in June, 1996. During her tenure, the College of Saint Mary has received national acclaim for its innovative programs including Mothers Living and Learning, a residence hall for single mothers and their children. Dr. Stevens is known regionally for being an advocate on women’s issues. She is a former director of Alegent Health and also serves on the Women’s Fund Board.

Since 1982 the Gerald T. Bergan Awards have recognized community members who exemplify leadership skills, vision and personal dedication to Alegent Health Bergan Mercy Medical Center and help further the organization’s Mission of providing high quality care for the body, mind and spirit of those in our care.
