PLATTSMOUTH, Neb. –- You know the feeling — the runny nose, aching head and fever — all classic signs of a sinus infection. You need antibiotics but it’s Friday night after five and your primary care physician’s office is closed. Now immediate relief for basic medical care is as easy as driving to your neighborhood Pamida store. Alegent Health and Pamida are teaming up to offer consumers a timesaving solution when minor medical ailments arise. The Alegent Health Quick Care clinic officially opened for business on November 1st. To help celebrate, the Plattsmouth Chamber of Commerce will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, December 6th at 8:30 a.m. at the store located at 211 S. 23rd St.

“We are excited to welcome this Alegent Health Quick Care Clinic to Plattsmouth,” says Jeanene Wehrbein, Plattsmouth Chamber of Commerce Executive Director. “Both Alegent Health and Pamida Stores have been important members of our chamber for many years and the addition of this medical clinic will be a much-needed addition to our community.”

Alegent Health Quick Care is not meant to be a replacement for a patient’s primary physician, but rather an alternative way to conveniently receive basic care when needed. The clinic is staffed by highly trained physician assistants and nurse practitioners. Services range from health screenings such as minor medical treatment, sports physicals, routine health screenings (for diabetes, high blood pressure and pregnancy) to the treatment of minor ailments (such as bronchitis, influenza, upper respiratory, bladder, urinary tract, ear and sinus infections as well as eye irritation and allergies) to immunizations and seasonal vaccines. The clinic does not provide emergency care and more serious conditions are referred to larger clinics or hospitals. Patients must also be 18 months of age or older. The cost for each service is posted at the clinic and patients can conveniently pay with cash, checks and credit cards. While no insurance is filed at the clinic, patients can submit receipts to their insurance providers.

“For busy people on the go, mini-clinics are fast becoming a common convenience in smaller communities and larger markets alike around the country. Alegent Health and Pamida thought it was time to bring this innovative concept of providing care for common health care needs to our community,” said Russ Mulert, operations director of Quick Care clinics. “Alegent Health Quick Care will provide Plattsmouth families with convenient, high-quality health services at home when they need them.”

Here’s how it works: the clinic is open from 8:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekends and holidays. A patient signs in at the Alegent Health Quick Care office and can choose to sit in the clinic waiting area or take a pager and go shopping. The physician assistant will buzz the pager when it’s time for the patient to return to the clinic. In keeping with the streamlined service, the cost for each service is posted at the clinic where cash, checks and credit cards are accepted for payment. No insurance is filed at the clinic. However, patients can submit clinic receipts to their insurance providers. Prices range from $25 to $53 depending on the service.

The Alegent Health/Pamida partnership is a good fit for the Omaha area — offering busy people the opportunity to receive the care they need as conveniently as they shop for groceries. According to Julie Lyle, senior vice president and chief merchandising and marketing officer for Pamida, "Pamida and Alegent Health are dedicated to providing high-quality family care to our customers in a friendly and convenient setting. The new Quick Care clinic allows Pamida to offer Plattsmouth families an easy way to meet their basic care needs, along with peace of mind that they are being treated by trusted health care professionals. Health care is an important part of Pamida's business, and the Alegent Health Quick Care clinic is a great addition to our newly expanded health and beauty department."

Alegent Health has a similar partnership with Omaha-area Hy-Vee food stores. To date, six Alegent Health Quick Care clinics are up and running inside Hy-Vee locations including 90th and Center St., 156th and Maple St., 180th and Q St., 35th and L St., 7910 Cass St. and at the Shadow Lake Towne Center Mall in Papillion, Neb. To date, roughly 13,000 patients have been seen at all locations for common ailments — including sinusitis, upper respiratory infections, viral pharyngitis, bronchitis and ear infections — flu shots and sports physicals.
