OMAHA, Neb., Aug. 23, 2007 – Join Alegent Health, the Bemis Center of Contemporary Arts, the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce and Omaha’s O! Campaign as artist Eddie Dominguez sets his O! sculpture on fire as a symbol of people joining together around a campfire or bonfire. A major O! event, this display of performance art is one of the highlights of this weekend’s Millard Days celebration. The celebration begins at 8:30 pm on the corner of Millard Avenue and 137th street, in the Hobby Lobby/ UMB parking lot. Music and entertainment will be provided by UMB Bank. A short program begins at 9:15 pm followed by the burning of the O! at 9:30 pm. Officials with the City of Omaha’s Fire Department will be present, securing the area and organizing safety precautions and procedures. The finished artwork will be Dominguez’s remaining charcoaled O!, a reminder of a true artistic "happening," where the public is as important as the art itself. Everyone is invited to take place in this community bonfire, an event as unique as the O! Public Art Project.

Alegent Health is the sole sponsor of the project partnering with the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce, the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts and Omaha's O! Campaign. The O! Public Art Project unites art, health and community spirit to beautify and celebrate the Omaha community. Twenty-four artists created twenty-two unique pieces of public art using six-foot tall fiberglass O! forms. The sculptures have been strategically placed throughout the community celebrating the wealth of artistic talent and diverse community cultural offerings.

The O!s will be on display through the spring of 2008 before being auctioned off to the public in April 2008. A complete listing of sites, artist information and photos are featured on the Web site.
