Richard Hachten, President, Alegent Health is 2007 Chair,, leading the March of Dimes to Give Every Baby a Healthy Start

(OMAHA, Neb.)—The March of Dimes Nebraska Chapter is pleased to announce that Richard Hachten ll, FACHE, Alegent Health President, will serve as chair for WalkAmerica in Omaha. WalkAmerica is the March of Dimes’ largest fundraiser, supporting vital research into the causes and ways to prevent premature birth—the leading killer of newborns.

More than half a million babies are born too soon every year in the United States. Many do not survive or face a lifetime of disability. In an average week in Nebraska, 60 babies are born prematurely. By taking part in WalkAmerica, Omaha residents can help save babies and give hope to families.

“It’s important to us that all babies get a healthy start. Please join us and be one of the millions of compassionate people who participate in WalkAmerica every year across the country. With your support, there’s hope,” said Hachten.

This is the fourth year that Mr. Hachten has donated his time to chair the walk and believes very strongly in the cause. Since becoming Alegent Health President in 1996, Richard Hachten has led the region’s largest integrated healthcare system down an ambitious track aimed for world-class leadership, quality and innovation. Alegent Health is a not-for-profit, faith-based healthcare system with over 1,200 physicians and approximately 8,500 employees. Alegent Health is comprised of five metropolitan medical centers, four rural hospitals and 42 primary care clinics with 125 physicians in Nebraska and Iowa. It has multiple collaborative affiliations with other healthcare providers in the region.

“The involvement of high profile local leaders is a key element in the continuing strength and appeal of WalkAmerica,” said Stephen Frantz, Chair of the Nebraska Chapter Board. “We are fortunate to have someone so committed to saving babies’ lives in this community.”

WalkAmerica will take place on April 29 at Mahoney State Park, near Ashland, 20 miles west of Omaha off I-80. For information on sponsorship opportunities or starting a team, visit or call Diana Wilkins at 496-7111.
