COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa— Ameristar Casino Hotel Team Members will present a $30,558 donation to the Alegent Health Foundation on behalf of Mercy Hospital. The generous gift will be presented on Thursday, March 23, 2007 in the hospital’s Rotunda. The contribution will be used towards the purchase of new furniture for the Post Critical Care Unit to promote comfort and healing for patients and their families recovering in our care.

The gift will be used for the purchase of 22 new reclining chairs for Post Critical Care patient rooms located on the second floor that are currently undergoing a renovation. Once the project is completed this summer, the revolutionary chairs will be an added bonus to the new rooms. Each chair’s design and ease in operation will help in speeding up the patient’s recovery time by providing them the appropriate reclining level and amount of support.

“Patients that are admitted with heart failure or pneumonia often have some difficulty breathing for a variety of reasons and a recliner often times offers more comfort than a hospital bed,” said Binkard. “Thanks to this generous gift from Ameristar and its employees, our patients will be able to get better rest immediately which will allow for a speedier recovery and help us continue providing the high quality of care our patients and their families have come to expect.”

In honor of the Ameristar Team Members who helped make the gift possible, staff of the Alegent Health Foundation and Mercy Hospital will host a reception between noon and 1:30 p.m. following the formal check presentation. Teresa Meyer, general manager of Ameristar Casino Hotel in Council Bluffs, will be presenting the check to Martha Binkard, operations director of the Critical Care Unit, and Andrea Bolte, RN and lead for the Post Critical Care Unit at Alegent Health Mercy Hospital. Ameristar and Alegent Health employees, as well as patients and their families are invited to attend the event.
