Mercy Hospital the Only MRI Accreditation Facility from Council Bluffs to Des Moines
COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa –Alegent Health Mercy Hospital is one of four facilities within the organization and the only in Southwest Iowa to be awarded a three-year term of accreditation in Magnetic Resonance Imaging resulting from a recent survey by the American College of Radiology (ACR). In addition to Mercy Hospital, Alegent Health Bergan Mercy Medical Center, Alegent Health Lakeside Hospital and Alegent Health Gold Circle have also received MRI accreditation through the ACR.
“Receiving MRI accreditation raises the bar on Alegent Health’s commitment to providing high-quality, patient-centered care,” said Troy Stockman, operations director of the Diagnostic Department at Alegent Health Mercy Hospital. “This designation also reflects Alegent Health’s Mission of caring for the body, mind and spirit of every individual we serve.”
Magnetic Resonance Imaging or MRI is a noninvasive procedure that takes pictures of the body’s interior without using X-rays or other types of ionizing radiation. Instead this relatively new diagnostic tool uses a powerful magnet combined with radio waves to construct detailed images of various tissues inside a person’s body.
The ACR, headquartered in Reston, Va;, awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation of the practice. Evaluations are conducted by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. They assess the qualification of the personnel and the adequacy of facility equipment. The surveyors report their findings to the ACR’s Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report.
Alegent Health is the largest not-for-profit, faith-based healthcare system in Nebraska and southwestern Iowa with nine acute care hospitals, more than 100 sites of service, over 1,200 physicians on its medical staff and roughly 8,500 employees.
