Critical Care Solution Arrives in Omaha

Omaha, Neb.—Alegent Health and Visicu, Inc. (NASDAQ: EICU) jointly announce plans to implement VISICU’s eICU® Program in the summer of 2007. This investment is part of Alegent Health’s on-going quality initiative. With the eICU Program, each Alegent Health patient will receive a second layer of clinical support and vigilance from physicians and nurses who specialize in critical care. The eICU technology’s early warning software, remote monitoring tools and communication tools provide the remote clinicians the information necessary to partner with the ICU clinicians as a proactive and integrated team.

“The eICU program will be a vital element of Alegent Health’s focus on providing the highest quality of patient centered care,” said Alegent Health CEO Wayne A. Sensor. “Adding this innovative medical technology furthers our commitment to our Mission and to serving the healthcare needs of our communities. We are excited to be the first in Omaha to provide our patients with this level of innovative care.”

Demonstrated to provide significant reductions in mortality and length of stay, eICU technology in conjunction with the ICU/eICU care model enable hospitals to meet stringent patient care safety standards by ensuring all ICU patients receive continuous care from physicians and nurses who specialize in critical care.

“This innovative technology will complement the high-quality care already provided by our existing ICU physicians and nurses. It has been repeatedly shown in systems that have implemented the eICU Program that with the extra level of vigilance - patient mortality is significantly reduced, patient outcomes are significantly improved and length of stay is reduced,” said Fred Hosler, M.D., MPA, senior vice president and chief medical officer. “Our patients deserve those types of results.”

Once all implementation phases are complete, the Alegent Health eICU Program will enhance critical care coverage for more than 90 ICU beds across its nine acute care hospitals, five of which are located in the Omaha/Council Bluffs metro area. Through the eICU Program, patients will have access to around-the-clock, advanced critical care expertise located in the Omaha based eICU control center. The decision to implement the eICU Program demonstrates Alegent Health’s commitment to utilizing the latest in cutting edge technology.

“VISICU is excited about partnering with Alegent Health which has a long tradition of providing quality, compassionate care and is committed to continuous improvement,” said Frank T. Sample, VISICU Chairman and CEO. “We are especially pleased that with the Alegent Health eICU Program patients in Omaha will have access to this level of advanced medical care.”
