Paralympic Sports Club Omaha is a collaborative effort of Alegent Health Immanuel Rehabilitation Center, Eastern Nebraska Wheelchair Athletic Association and the Great Plains Paralyzed Veterans of America. For almost 40 years these organizations have been coordinating adaptive sport and recreation opportunities for youths and adults with physical disabilities in team sports and physical activity, regardless of skill level.
Paralympic Sports Club Omaha is an official member of U.S. Paralympic Sport Club network. As a division of the U.S. Olympic Committee, U.S. Paralympics organizes The Paralympics -- elite sport events for athletes with a disability -- which take place two weeks after the regular Olympics.
Because athletes compete in the same venue as the Olympians, only elite-level athletes participate. Athletes must participate in qualifying competitions to be eligible for the Paralympics. The process of attaining this competitive level begins with the local Paralympic Sports Club by competing in local and regional events.
Many youths who have participated in Paralympic Sports Club Omaha have earned collegiate scholarships. Several adult athletes have participated in the U.S. Paralympics.
